Last Chance to See Tragic and Timeless: The Art of Mark Rothko

By | September 9, 2014

This week is your last chance to see Tragic and Timeless: The Art of Mark Rothko. The free exhibition, which the Riverfront Times’ Malcolm Gay called “a minor coup,” closes Sunday, September 14.

Bringing together nine works by Mark Rothko, including four major paintings from Switzerland’s Beyeler Foundation and an important painting from a private collection, Tragic and Timeless showcases the artist’s entire oeuvre and celebrates the diversity of nearly 30 years of artistic output from this crucial figure in the American Abstract Expressionist movement. If you want to learn more about the artist to get you in the mood for an exhibition visit, check out this video of Christopher Rothko, the artist’s son, talking about his father’s work in a lecture at SLAM earlier this year.
