This summer, elementary teacher Jennifer Kavanaugh has been developing new ways to bring art in the classroom as part of Master Teacher Summer Fellowship, an annual award to a local educator with an interest in museum education.

During the four-week summer appointment, Kavanaugh researched art objects, developed interdisciplinary learning materials, and prepared education programs that can be implemented at the Museum during the academic year. She also worked with the Museum’s Education Department to develop new ways to incorporate the arts into her own classroom. Kavanaugh, who holds a master’s degree in elementary education from Fontbonne University, teaches fifth-grade students at St. Margaret of Scotland School in the Shaw neighborhood of St. Louis.
